About Fried Rice
Fried rice is a dish made of cooked rice that has been stir-fried in a wok or frying pan. Typically, extra items like eggs, vegetables, seafood, or meat are added to the fried rice. It is frequently consumed either by itself or as a side dish. Fried rice is a common ingredient in East Asian, Southeast Asian, and some South Asian cuisines. It’s also a traditional Indonesian dish. Fried rice as a homemade dish frequently uses leftovers from other meals, giving rise to countless variations. All fried rice dishes can be traced back to the Chinese fried rice that was first created during the Sui Dynasty.
The main ingredient is cooked rice, which is accompanied by several other items including vegetables, eggs, meat (chicken, beef, hog, lamb, mutton), preserved meat (bacon, ham, sausage), seafood (fish, shrimp, crab), mushrooms, and more. For enhanced taste, aromatics like onions, shallots, scallions, leeks, and garlic are frequently used. The wok or frying pan can be greased with a variety of cooking oils, such as vegetable oil, sesame oil, clarified butter, or lard, to reduce sticking and provide taste. Salt, various soy sauces, oyster sauce, and a variety of additional sauces and spices can all be used to season fried rice dishes.
Scallions, chile slices, fried shallots, sprigs of parsley or coriander, toasted sesame seeds, seaweed flakes (gim or nori), slices of cucumber, tomato, lime, or pickled vegetables are all common garnishes.
A Brief History of National Fried Rice Day
Benihana established National Fried Rice Day in 2018 because they view high-quality rice as the cornerstone of every meal they provide, not simply another side dish. For more than 50 years, Benihana has served countless generations of food enthusiasts the mouthwatering flavor of their renowned fried rice. They have served about 2,720,350 pounds of rice produced in California annually since they were founded. Fried rice is a staple of the Benihana experience and is adored all around the world.
